Spend a few days exploring Puglia without exhausting yourself, in a slow tour around the countryside (see all the details). Visit the region as if with a friend, savour each instant and enjoy the sun kissed local produce.
Imagine waking up under the pointed cone roof of a trullo in the Puglia countryside. You open the door to see Ceglie Messapica in the bright sun and the reflections on the whitewashed walls dazzle you. In the distance, a dog barks and already the smell of rosemary fills your nostrils. Breakfast is prepared on the terrace in front of the olive fields. You start eating the almond paste biscuits purchased the previous evening in the oldest bakery in the village and pour yourself a cup of hot coffee. Your day of experiencing life in Puglia is just beginning…
Complete tour itinerary
Day 1: Ceglie Messapica
Your slow Puglia holiday starts when you are welcomed upon your arrival (at the airport or train station) by your guide. In Slow Drive (a tranquil road trip through the panoramic backroads) you will be transferred to your accommodations where you will have the time to rest up after a small welcome snack. Lodging is provided in the historical center of the charming village of Ceglie Messapica in the heart of the Itria Valley (it is possible to choose accommodations in Trullo in the countryside or a Masseria Prestige as an option).
At night, we will take you to eat in the center of the village of Ceglie Messapica, in a typical trattoria to enjoy the savoury cuisine of Southern Italy.
Day 2: Polignano a Mare and Alberobello
The following morning, upon waking up at the time you have chosen, depart with your driver on the small panoramic backroads of the countryside in the direction of the Adriatic Coast to admire the spectacular marine front of Polignano a Mare and the turquoise sea. In a seaside town that has inspired a number of artists, you will have lunch in a restaurant that serves local cuisine.
In the afternoon you will head in the direction of Alberobello to explore its trulli; these have been classed by the world heritage UNESCO (round stone houses and thick walls with pointed roofs). The region is internationally known for its production of superior quality extra virgin olive oil, and we will not miss the chance to sample some under the olive trees and to explore the olive culture dating back thousands of years in Puglia.
Return to Ceglie Messapica at the end of the day where the restaurants serving local fine cuisine are waiting for you; or you can just spend the evening relaxing at the guesthouse.
Day 3: Ionian Coast, Primitivo and Porto Cesareo
A day dedicated to vineyards and the sea. Today, in the direction of the Mediterranean, that we call the Ionian Sea here in Puglia, we will take panoramic country roads crossing through fields of olive trees and vineyards of the famous red wine Primitivo di Manduria. You will have time to breathe the region’s air but especially to sample with your noon meal this wine that has been soaked in the sun and sea air.
The afternoon is spent by the sea, on turquoise beaches and natural archaeological sites of Porto Cesareo. At the end of the day, return along the Ionian coast to Ceglie Messapica to your lodging for a free evening at a local restaurant or well deserved rest at your guesthouse.
After your breakfast, you’ll be taken back to the airport/train station for the return journey. You can also extend your holiday, depending on your interests there are several options available. Please get in touch and we’ll craft the best holiday for you.
